Our Ideal Candidate:
The Health Information Management Director is a hands-on leader responsible for the daily operations of the health information department. This role ensures accurate, timely, and secure management of patient records in compliance with HIPAA, organizational policies, and regulatory requirements. The Director actively participates in operational tasks while guiding staff to maintain efficient workflows, data integrity, and confidentiality across both paper and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
We are looking for a team member that is passionate about serving our community of patients and enjoys working in a team! Some technical requirements for this position are:
- Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management or related field preferred; RHIT or RHIA certification strongly desired.
- Minimum of three years’ experience in health information or medical records management, including supervisory responsibilities.
- Proficiency in EHR systems.
- Strong knowledge of HIPAA regulations, release of information processes, and record retention requirements.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply regulatory guidelines and organizational policies.
- Bilingual ability is a plus.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and actively participate in the organization, retrieval, and retention of health records.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory standards for privacy and security.
- Supervise and mentor HIM staff, providing training and performance feedback.
- Maintain adequate staffing and adjust workflows to meet operational needs.
- Monitor EHR processes, chart completion, and documentation accuracy.
- Manage release of information requests and ensure timely, compliant responses.
- Conduct regular audits and quality assurance reviews to maintain data integrity.
- Develop and update departmental policies and procedures in alignment with best practices.
- Collaborate with clinical and administrative leaders on initiatives related to data governance, compliance, and quality improvement.
- Maintain a secure, organized, and efficient work environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
