Medicaid Changes May be coming - What You Can Do to Stay Ready
There may be big changes coming to Medicaid/Apple Health in the next few years. A new law called H.R. 1 could affect who can get Medicaid and what people need to do to keep their coverage. These changes are expected to start in October 2026, but the truth is—we don’t know exactly what the rules will look like yet.
Because things are not final, the best thing you can do right now is stay informed and be prepared. Here’s how:
- Keep your contact information up to date.
Make sure both your clinic and your insurance provider have your correct phone number, address, and email. This way, you won’t miss any important letters, emails, or calls.
- Pay attention to updates.
Watch for information from your insurance provider, the Washington State Health Care Authority, or Apple Health. They will send updates when changes are official.
- Ask questions if you’re unsure.
If you get a notice and don’t understand it, reach out for help. At Yakima Neighborhood Health, our navigators can explain what it means and help you take the next steps.
Remember—nothing is set in stone yet. Rules may change, but you don’t have to go through it alone. Stay informed, keep your information current, and know that we are here to help you and your family get the care you need.
