For Cassy Fierro, nursing has never been just a job—it’s been a lifelong journey of growth, service, and purpose. As Nursing Director at Yakima Neighborhood Health Services (YNHS), Cassy leads with compassion and experience, grounded in the same community where she first began her career.
"I started at YNHS as a medial assistant." Cassy recalls. “I went on to complete nursing school while working here. Since then, I’ve been in many nursing roles that have given me opportunity to grow and strengthen my skills and knowledge.”
That journey, from MA to Nursing Director, is a testament not only to her dedication but also to the supportive environment at YNHS. “Opportunity for growth is one of the most rewarding parts of my work,” she says. “YNHS really encourages you to keep learning and advancing.”
Cassy grew up in Yakima and earned her nursing degrees from Heritage University and Western Governors University (WGU). Her connection to the region and its people runs deep, which makes her role in serving local families even more meaningful.
“What drew me to working with underserved communities was being able to play a part in providing quality care to our patients and families,” she explains. “I chose to work at YNHS because I strongly believe in the mission and values.”
In her two decades with YNHS, Cassy has seen the organization grow and evolve; however, one thing that has remained constant is the heart behind the work. “No day is ever the same,” she says. “I enjoy working with the great staff here and being part of something that truly makes a difference.”
For Cassy, YNHS stands apart not only for its mission but also for the breadth of care it offers. “People might not realize just how vast our services are,” she notes. “YNHS provides care for the whole person, from medical and dental to behavioral health, housing, and beyond. It’s amazing to be part of that.”
Outside of work, Cassy makes the most of life here in Central Washington. “I love the variety of weather and easy access to the outdoors,” she says. “In my free time, I like to travel, read, hike, and run.”
Cassy’s story is one of dedication to her patients, her team, and the Yakima Valley community she calls home. Her career path embodies what YNHS is all about: helping people grow, thrive, and make an impact through compassionate care.
At YNHS, we’re proud to have leaders like Cassy who bring not only skill and experience, but also heart, mentorship, and an unwavering belief in the power of community health.
