Meet Veronica Alcaraz, RN, BSN: Leading with Heart in the Lower Valley

For Veronica Alcaraz, nursing isn’t just a profession; it’s a calling rooted in the community that raised her. As the Lower Valley Site Administrator and a Registered Nurse with Yakima Neighborhood Health Services (YNHS), Veronica brings compassion, leadership, and a deep connection to the people she serves.

“I grew up in the Yakima Valley, primarily in Toppenish and Granger,” she shares. “Being able to work here and give back to the community that shaped me is so rewarding.”

Veronica’s path to healthcare began close to home. She studied at Yakima Valley College, Washington State University, and Western Governors University before joining YNHS eight years ago.

Over the years, she has grown into her dual role, overseeing operations as Site Administrator while continuing to serve patients directly as an outreach nurse with YNHS’s Neighborhood Showers program, which provides mobile hygiene services to those in need.

“Whether it’s someone walking through our clinic doors or someone we meet out in the community, I love helping people get connected to the care, programs, and resources they need,” Veronica says.

Her commitment to service is fueled by a strong belief in YNHS’s mission.

“I chose YNHS because this organization truly cares about making healthcare equitable and accessible to everyone,” she explains. “The mission is strong, and the team is amazing!”

In her years with YNHS, Veronica has seen firsthand how teamwork and compassion can transform lives. She’s especially proud of the breadth of services YNHS offers, which she believes sets the organization apart.

“People may not realize just how many programs and services we have,” she says. “Medical, dental, optical, behavioral health, outreach, pharmacy; there’s such a variety, and it all works together to meet people where they are.”

When it comes to staying healthy, her advice is simple but sound: “Keep moving, eat nutrient-rich foods, and visit your doctor regularly.”

Living and working in Central Washington has given Veronica a deep appreciation for both the people and the place. “I love our beautiful community…and the delicious food!” she says.

For Veronica, every day is a chance to make an impact. “Helping people each day and knowing we’re making a difference in their lives is what keeps me going,” she reflects.

YNHS is grateful to have Veronica on the team. She’s a leader who embodies the organization’s mission and reminds us all of the power of giving back to the community you call home.
